Osprey
Osprey, Florida got its start in 1867 when settler John Webb and his family settled on Spanish Point. Their homestead became the Osprey area and is still visible today preserved as historic Spanish Point, the 1901 Guptill House, Mary’s Chapel, and the reconstructed Webb Citrus Packing House.
Osprey is an ideal location for home buyers who want convenient access to Venice, Sarasota, Siesta Key with its award-winning beaches, or Bradenton. It is also located near Tamiami Trail or I-75 for access to more distant locations including Ft. Myers, Naples, or Miami to the south and east, or Tampa and Orlando to the north.
Living in Osprey is also about enjoying Florida nature. Oscar Scherer State Park borders Osprey and is a prime viewing spot for Florida scrub jays, a species only found in Florida and currently considered threatened. The park has numerous natural areas and over 15 miles of hiking and biking trails. There are also campgrounds available for those wishing to enjoy the park for longer periods. Bay Preserve is 4.3 acres of nature and visitors can enjoy the Burrows-Mattson House and great views of Little Sarasota Bay. Casey Key stretches north from Venice and includes the North Jetty Beach and park and Nokomis Beach. Osprey residents can also take advantage of the Legacy Trail for biking, running, walking, and enjoying nature.
